Help in the Hillside Natural Area for El Cerrito's Earth Day, Apr. 20

Kids digging weeds in the Hillside Natural AreaAs part of El Cerrito's citywide Earth Day projects again this year, F5C joins the new Friends of Hillside Natural Area removing harmful invasives near the main, Schmidt Lane entrance.

All ages invited for whatever time you can spare between 9 AM and noon! Meet a short way up the chained fire road between Navellier and the Recycling Center, across from 7500 Schmidt Lane.

For City Nature Challenge, document nature in the Hillside Natural Area, 10 AM - 1 PM Sat., Apr. 27

F5C will be among El Cerrito groups and environmentalists using the free iNaturalist app to record wild plants and animals in El Cerrito Hillside Natural Area. Please download the app, set up an account, and join in this friendly global competition to observe and identify the largest number of species April 26-29. All ages welcome!

This citizen-science "bioblitz" also will help El Cerrito's planning to manage and conserve the area while making it more fire resilient. More broadly, these observations help us understand biodiversity and effects of climate change.

Meet at 10 AM at the north end of Regency Court, 1591 Regency Court on Internet maps. Please consider carpooling, being dropped off, or walking a short distance on this one-way cul-de-sac. For info and updates, check El Cerrito Trail Trekkers.
